The sweep of a broom against the kitchen floor broke the quiet afternoon stillness as Alexa Chains moved effortlessly through her routine. Dressed in a pair of casual denim shorts, a red checkered top, and wedge heels, the raven-haired woman brought an unexpected grace to the tiring task of housework. Her hands, encased in latex gloves, guided the broom with practiced precision until the floor was entirely spotless. With the first chore complete, she turned her attention to the wooden kitchen table. A crisp mist from a spray bottle coats the surface before she wipes it down with a swift, thorough stroke, ensuring every corner is immaculate before dressing it in a fresh tablecloth. Finally, she moves to the glass door, focusing on wiping away the faint smudges left by the afternoon sun. As her wiping cloth glided across the door, she caught sight of a figure standing in front of her. It was Isiah Maxwell, shifting his weight with a shy, hesitant demeanor just outside her door. Alexa opened the door and welcomed him with a warm smile. In his hands, he held a piece of mail that had accidentally been delivered to his address. Rather than leaving it in a mailbox, he had taken the time to walk it over and deliver it to her personally. Noting the heavy heat of the summer day, Alexa felt a wave of gratitude for his neighborly kindness. As a gesture of thanks, she gestured for him to step inside out of the sun, instantly setting to work mixing a glass of freshly squeezed, ice-cold lemonade to help him cool down. Because her husband is frequently away on solo vacations, Alexa's days are usually defined by an isolating solitude, filled mostly by a continuous cycle of cleaning and organizing an empty house. Having Isiah sit at her freshly wiped table changes the entire energy of the space. Her loneliness melted away, replaced by an eager, vibrant enthusiasm as she relished the rare and deeply appreciated comfort of having someone to share her home with.
