Fresh releases make the invitation; the names behind them make the story. This year's watchlist connects each performer with dated work, collaborators and recorded career milestones, so every new favorite comes with a starting point.
The selection keeps this article's performer lineup and artwork. Scene spotlights are drawn from approved, dated releases where available. Career years and winner records come from the profiles; a selected release is an introduction to the work, rather than a claim about someone's private life.
